My comment is that this is what Lavrov does for a living.

Supposedly the FBI has definite proof that it was the Russians but if show us the evidence they would have to reveal that evidence. I imagine in years to come we'll find out more.

sounds about right

In 2005, an internal National Security Agency historical study was declassified; it concluded that Maddox had engaged the North Vietnamese Navy on August 2, but that there were no North Vietnamese naval vessels present during the incident of August 4.

The report stated regarding the first incident on August 2 that "at 1500G,[note 1] Captain Herrick ordered Ogier's gun crews to open fire if the boats approached within ten thousand yards. At about 1505G,[note 1] Maddox fired three rounds to warn off the communist boats. This initial action was never reported by the Johnson administration, which insisted that the Vietnamese boats fired first."

Right the Gulf of Tonkin incident. A lot like Nazis taking over Ukraine. Thanks for reminding us that both were made up.

Thanks for sharing. I hadn't heard about that.

Interesting that this comes right after Boris's comments.

Slightly concerning article

ya I can see how some might consider it concerning.
Just as others might consider this concerning.

So, you're comparing a Russian carrier group in the English Channel to a US Strike Group in the Yellow Sea? :)

You really think the Russian carrier in the Channel thing is not something that was been organised months ago? The Daily Telegraph is just one of the many fear-mongering hate-filled rags that passes for "media" in the UK these days. If it isn't Russki invasion it's "Snowmageddon!!" (it snows for a couple of days), "Killer Bug alert!" (someone got stung by a wasp) etcetera etcetera

The media here seems to be ramping things up this last 12 months - what concerns me more than what the write is why they are writing it. Why do they need us to live in so much fear?
Mind you, Uncle Bill was on the same thing years back....

I here what your saying Rob and I agree, the media seems to be escalating the fear month by month, not cool considering many people concern themselves with whats written, I dont so much but with actual military maneuvers taking place and tensions over syria its a little more concerning than the usual he said, she said bollocks we have to put up with.

It is funny that both sides accuse the other of using fear. What I absolutely agree with is that Russia has no plans to attack England. So, it all comes down to the Russian reasons for the exercise. Is it a show of force (though it's their only carrier) or just practice for something else?

Yes Rob, it clearly states that in the article
Nato navies have been preparing a major operation to track the 55,000 tonne Admiral Kuznetsov and its escorts in a game of “naval cat and mouse” down through the North Atlantic to the Bay of Biscay and then into the Mediterranean.

the telegraph does seem to be a fear machine these days, some of the shit they put on the internet is ridiculous.

My concerns are't over an attack on UK, just the 'posturing' and as Steve pointed out, the reasons.

This article from August discusses Western war propaganda in general and against Russia specifically, and I think its facts are solid in regards to the USA/NATO wars of the past 30 years, and its conclusions about the current demonization of Assad and Putin resonate very strongly with me.
