So I wake up this morning and turn the tap to have a shower. Nothing. Try all the other taps in the house. Same amount of nothing. I walk out the front to find all the water that should be in the taps is instead on the front lawn and halfway down the street. Apparently the plumbers who built the place did a rather dodgy job of it, and welded something to something else that wasnt meant to be welded. Anyways I have no water for the next few nights.

I didnt realise how much I rely on something like water to get through even the most menial tasks. I can no longer:

-Cook most things
-have a shower
-wash my hands
-wash the dishes
-wash my clothes
-go to the toilet
-have a cup of tea
-etc

Its going to be a fun couple of nights. I'll be living off pots of water until it gets fixed. OLDSCHOOL!

Have some Chamomile tea, ho!

Yeah it sure does suck. We used to periodically get the water turned off, and we'd have to do everything with buckets.

Keeps you humble, thinking that some people's lives actually revolve around hiking ridiculous mileage every day just to get fresh water.

I have a 15 gallon tank I fill with drinking water. I have a well but it tastes like sulfer, which tastes like rotten ass.

yes, i keep cases of bottled water.

also you should keep a lot of dried goods, candles, blankets, flashlights, batteries, guns, ammo, knives, tents, propane bottles and pretty much everything you'd need to go camping for a month.

this is a basic home emergency kit.

I made mine after the blackout.

The worst thing is when the building manager puts up notices saying the water will be shut off at 9:00, so you make sure to get up at 8:00 and hop into the shower, get all lathered up, and the water dies, 'cause they turned it off 8:05 instead! Now THAT'S something that pisses me off, 'cause it was straight-up misrepresentation (and happen in our apartment far too often)...

i've been working on mine for a minute now.

lot's of canned goods and such. phoenix water is extremely brackish so we always use filtered water, so i have two five gallon bottles in the house plus two more for "camping" which i could always fill from my pool in a true emergency. so that's 20 gallons for the higgs family. i don't quite have enough for a month yet, but i get a little each week. canned fruit, tuna, mixed vegges and so on.

i highly recommendthis book to learn how to prepare for a disaster or emergency.

I have an easy solution for ya. You should list those things in reverse order, starting with the tea. That way, by the time you figure out which kind of tea you want, the water will be back.

Good luck man. When I was growing up they'd turn off water a lot, so people had to figure all those things out... Most of the time it simply meant walking a couple of blocks down the street to a different neighborhood and coming back with a couple of buckets. We also used to store water in various containers, while we had it, just in case. (It even came to gathering rainwater into a large basin, but it was that bad only once or twice.)

When Donny Osmond was on "Space Ghost, Coast to Coast" Space Ghost asked him "If you're a little bit Rock and Roll, what's the rest of you?"

Donny answered "Mainly Water", and thus earned my undying respect.

yeah so they dug up my entire front lawn yesterday and pulled all the pipes out and replaced them all with new ones. The old pipes were so rotten, there were cracks and holes all the way along the pipe. No idea how we were ever getting any water with pipes like that. Anyways water is restored now!
