Saw Star Wars on opening day at the Astor place theater in midtown, my friends and I were fans of Lucas and had been waiting for it for quite a while. I went in the afternoon, I dont remember it being crowded, that all changed within a few days. It was a breath of fresh air, the critics sneered and called it a space opera, we knew better, it created a meme. I still recall the hologram of Carrie, what a shame she died so young

RIP Debbie Reynolds, her mother died today. Coincidentally I watched 'Singing in the Rain ' over Xmas, it held up, and in its own way was as iconic as Star Wars.

They were both extraordinary women. Debbie Reynold's death is heart-breaking, but not really unexpected. Losing her daughter was just too much for her to bear. I remember Debbie's talent much more than Carrie's. Debbie was a part of my early life. My mom took me to see "Singin' in the Rain," "How the West was Won," and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown." Debbie Reynold's was part of a unrepeatable past. But, she and her daughter will be seen as long as people watch movies.

I don't normally give a shit about celebrity deaths, but this one hurts.
I put on "A new Hope" and noticed she's the only character mentioned in the scroll at the front. By the time R2 and C3PO landed on Tattooine I was tearing up a little.

Rough damn year.
