a medicine storage that maintains given temperature?

Postby Dmitri on Wed Jan 04, 2017 3:22 pm

Need a small-fridge-sized box/device that I could place outdoors and plug in, and it would automatically maintain room temperature (between 50F and 70F) inside of it, regardless of the outside temperature, whether freezing/in winter or hot/in summer.

Can't find anything like this googling...

Does anything like that even exist?

Any help will be appreciated!

TIA

I think I understand what you need, but , but I don't know of any specific home machine. Though, you might try a medical supply company.

Alternatively, you live in GA; so, you can find out where the frost line is in your area. If whatever you need to store has to be outside, then underground has a very stable temperature.

You could also try Lifehacker or Instructables and search for a temperature controlled box. There might be something using a styrofoam cooler, a battery, thermostat and a fan. Good luck!

Hey Dmitri, are these close to what you might want? You'll have to check the specs. http://www.emsworld.com/article/1032413 ... -standards

Thanks guys!

Steve, I'll check out Lifehacker, etc.

Bill, that stuff is waaay past what we need... Something much smaller (and much cheaper) :)

I'm also looking into one of those cooler/warmer portable boxes for food - might work, but not ideal.

Anyway, thanks again.

Thanks! I haven't actually, and yes looks like they would definitely work -- the kind specifically for outdoors, except... MAN are those expensive!! :o :-X :'(

No thermostat there... I looked at a lot of these types of coolers/warmers and even the more expensive ones don't seem to have a way to just maintain a specific/set temperature; that seems to be reserved for large units which prices are in the thousands.

I'm thinking we're probably just gonna have to find another way to solve this, e.g. store the meds at the house/in the basement and take them to the barn (they're for the horses) as needed. Just thought we could have like a small fridge type of setup that could live there outdoors, -- but maybe not... Not a huge deal.

Thanks again

What about a bread proofing box? http://www.kingarthurflour.com/shop/ite ... oofing-box

May not get cool enough, but you could probably find one that does.

Damn, didn't even know this existed... Thanks

Well, looks like an indoor device, i.e. expecting reasonable operating conditions, particularly room temperature; doesn't seem to have the "cooler" bit. When the outside temperature is 80-90F (summer), for many hours straight, I think that might cause an overheating problem with this.
