i have no idea how to contact him. id imagine you could just show up at his gym, like you can do with some of the even bigger names (aoki shinya, kid yamamoto, etc.), but i dont know that he would want to be interviewed about being a weirdo. you could probably find his email online and email him to set something up too. last name is nagashima. i believe his first name is yuichiro. probably doesnt speak english though.

If the guy publicly dresses up like that, he will probably be cool with the interview.

Also, if you are into gender ambiguity, we can hit ni-chome (the gay district). Further, you might look into the concept of new-half bars. (Tranny bars)

Dan, all that is great.
What could be more fun than spending a day interviewing transsexual Japanese people???
Any different perspective I can get on the subject will help.

One of my goals is to tie in the current stuff with past precedent during the early modern period of Japan (Meiji, Taisho, Showa, etc...).

Have you seen the film Go-Hatto? It was quite popular here some years ago. It was the story of gay love in the Shinsen-gumi (Japan's most famous group of swordsmen, around the 1850's). I myself watched about 1/20th of it and stopped because it was not so interesting for me. For even earlier, you may want to look up the stories about Nobunaga Oda and his "friend" Ranmaru, reputedly the most beautiful man in Japan at the time... And do not forget takarazuka and men playing women's roles in traditional japanese plays. And then there is "Johnny's boys"...
