Summer is hot and humid, winter is cold. Autumn and spring would seem to be the best times to come - but extremely high levels of pollen will fly around and may cause you to have a new, lifelong addiction to antihistamines, so it may just be better to swelter or shiver instead. :)

If memory serves the character Mariko in James Clavell's Shogun says something about "truly the birth and death of the seasons are the most beautiful" In reference to just what you're talking about.

Oh, regarding the seasons, I just realized that it may be damn cold at the end of Feb, start of Mar.
What is the weather like at that time of year?
I don't mind the cold, but it may be less conducive to interviewing people outdoors.

I think it's still pretty cold (nothing compared to "Canada cold," but still...)

Are people generally out and about though?

Snow on the ground? People staying cooped up inside?

Or is there reasonable life out on the streets?

Uh... No snow, snow is quite rare over here - I think there is still reasonable life out on the streets, if my memory serves me correctly... :D

It doesn't actually get that cold in Japan, compared to what we think of as cold in North America...
