Re: Der Spiegel and the lady liberty beheading. I don't think many Americans really understand what America really means to the rest of the world. People from Germany (like Trump's grampa?) came to the US because of what it meant, which was written on its most famous statue --and the only global symbol of hope.
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Unfortunately, I grew up believing that idea, and it's hard to give up, especially to the people who seem bent on destroying it. Can't help myself, and don't want to. And, I'll bet that there are more than a few members of this board whose families believed the same thing not that long ago. I also grew up with people telling me to go back where I came from. I say if they don't agree with the poem, it's they who need to go back.
[Edit] Or take the f-in statue down. Put up a golden T.
