Kevin:

Be sure to keep a suitable receptacle handy in which to knock the ash off of the moxa 'cigar' after each application of heat. Otherwise, the hot ash may accidentally fall off onto the patient's skin when it gets too long, or when the 'cigar' tip is reapplied to the needle. These occurrences don't normally cause a burn to the skin, but are definitely an unpleasantly hot surprise that patients won't like. :o

Well, whatever! ::)

In any event, all the more reason then to use the so-called "smokeless moxa sticks", often referred to as 'moxa cigars', since they are made out of charcoal, rather than Mugwort Leaf, and thus don't have the odor that some people think is similar to the smell of pot. :)

They are certainly not 'smokeless', in the sense of producing no smoke at all, but they definitely burn with less smoke than the Mugwort Moxa Sticks.

If we're casting votes then to me, moxa smells like pot, but it could just be different varieties or lack of "depth perception" in my nostrils. First time I ever walked into the TCM school in Oakland for a tour I thought they were all toking up 'cause that's what I smelled and I didn't know what moxa was.

You guys must smoke shitty weed or something. lol
Moxa to me smells like moxa, which actually smells a little less strong than dragons blood and about on par with a warehouse full of musty middle eastern carpets. And I don't mean Beekeeper suit pussy either!
Coconuts. Bananas. Mangos. Rice. Beans. Water. It's good.

i think it's about your perception trying to best identify the smell. No, moxa doesn't smell like weed when you know what it is, but the first time you smell it and don't know what it is, you 'categorize' it as 'some kind of weed'

I think you're right on target here, man. That's what I've been thinking as well. :)
