UK Election

Postby KEND on Wed Jun 07, 2017 8:23 am

Well UK election is tomorrow and Corbyn seems to be making a last minute surge. I am not a supporter of May but I feel that if he became PM it would be a disaster. A back bencher with no ministerial experience, elected labor leader by some tricky moves by 'momentum' which is composed of the remnants of a radical left group expelled by the labor party, advised by a hard left unionist who has been recorded as saying he would bring down the government at whatever cost and lacking support from most elected members of the party. I have already tangled with 'friends' on facebook [I have a range of 'friends' ranging from extreme left to extreme right] and their support seems to hinge on their emotional response to a movie that depicts corbyn as a latter day Christ I see distinct parallels with trump on the right wing--promises that cannot possibly be fulfilled, a 'cleaning out' of 'them' and subsequent blaming the 'others' when things go pear shaped.. Over the years I have seen many politicians come and go, and am still amazed how a skillful orator can manipulate the masses, a logical thought out plan seldom wins [not that the conservative manifesto was particularly well thought out]. The UK is a war zone and like it or not a strong approach is required, democracy is not all hugs and love sit ins. The British spirit is better exemplified by the South Londoner who took on a knife wielding terrorist shouting 'Millwall' to counter the 'allah ' screams while everyone else ran for their lives [it is possible however he thought he was at a football match]

It is certainly the most divided election I can think of since Thatcher. I'd take issue with most of your points, particularly the "war zone" comment, it's hardly Aleppo here. I don't know of anyone who has suggested hugs and sit ins as a response to terrorism, but of course that is how the Murdoch press here is portraying Corbyn's stance. Meanwhile, May is shaking hands with Saudis.....

For the first time we actually have a 'proper' general election of left wing v right wing and we finally have a real socialist party instead of a 'Tory light' one. Whatever anyone thinks of Jeremy Corbyn he has held fast to his views for over 30 years and is the only genuine character in this election that is not a puppet of the 1% puppeteers controlling the Tories and and the Blairites. He has my vote and along with Caroline Lucas of the Green Party hold the hopes of all of us wanting a functioning NHS, Public Services, transport and care for the elderly, disabled and not so fortunate in our society, a decent minimum wage and someone willing to negotiate with Europe instead of insulting them.

Even if he doesn't win, the Tories will have to take into account that there is a huge voting population out there that don't want to return to the 1800's...
