Oliver Stone - The Putin Interviews

Postby Michael on Mon Aug 07, 2017 8:17 pm

Have you wondered why, immediately after the the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990 and the end of the Cold War, another enemy conveniently became the focus of our nation's struggle? And when that one was bombed to smithereens, then another enemy, and then another.

If the mainstream media's constant demonization of external foes of mythical proportions, from strongmen like Noriega, to Saddam, to bin Laden, to Kim and the Axis of Evil, to Gaddaffi, to Assange and Assad, if these evil-doers do not entirely answer the question of why we need to spend $600 BILLION and more every year on defense, and you wish to enjoy a different viewpoint on the topic from the film maker who gave us JFK, and more recently Snowden, then I highly recommend Oliver Stone's The Putin Interviews.

Since the war in Syria began in 2011, and then the Ukranian crisis of 2014, I have posted interviews here with Presidents Assad and Putin because they are almost never shown outside of sound bites in the mainstream Western media, where these men are constantly demonized. However, when given time to respond to Western accusations against them, they often reveal the weaknesses of these allegations in replies that are rarely given as much attention as the original charges.

Oliver Stone has shown skill in dramatizing the true nature of the military-industrial complex in the USA, which partly answers why its astronomical costs must be justified by endless external enemies and why it tolerates no dissent, not even from a president. Stone conducted interviews with President Putin from 2015-17 and then edited them into a program released on Showtime last month, which I highly recommend. It does total eight hours, but because of the Q & A format it can easily be watched in small snippets of several minutes.

Stone provides a viewpoint from outside the mainstream media bubble into not only a person, not merely a country, but into the continuing meme of the external enemy, who is used to justify endless expenditures of money and resources of our country, over decades. It is the meme of a bogey man of such gigantic proportions that it can be blamed by one side, without evidence, for the loss of an election. It's a myth based on a nothing burger, to borrow from one of the CNN talking heads, who admitted there was no basis, other than ratings, for the continuation of the allegations.

Hillary Clinton accused Putin of being personally responsible for the hacking of the election, promoting him to a status among villains somewhere between Lex Luthor and Osama, and then said he did it out of a personal grudge against her, promoting herself to the status of Lois Lane, Jessica Lynch or Joan of Arc.

Hillary Clinton wrote:"Vladimir Putin himself directed the covert cyber attacks against our electoral system, against our democracy, apparently because he has a personal beef against," she said.

The world politics is most probably much more evil than we are led to believe it is. Have not seen 'The Putin interviews', I'm sure it is interesting far beyond an interview of H,Clinton...for example

Putin and Stone watched Strangelove together. That's new.

Putin's UFC death match against Chuck Norris would be new.
