Hey Appledog,

Why don't you tell us who your various teachers are/were, and then post a video of you doing form and some sort of application training? Until then, you should think about toning down your superior attitude and outrageous claims.

Almost all long time posters here have done so. Put up or shut up.

Best, Ian

It doesn't matter who my teachers are. What matters is how you choose to respond to me. Do you get upset and rant? Do you attack people you've never met and don't know anything about online? Or are you nice? Or, do you just ignore them, for whatever reason?

Unfortunately (some people here) including yourself have not chosen the easy way of dealing with this.

In fact, (You) are unintentionally embarrassing (yourself) in ways even I find difficult to explain.

1. This is a discussion forum. There is no qualification for entry onto this forum. Therefore (anyone and everyone) can join -- including (some people who do not do internal martial arts).

2. The way in which people here interact is by talking to each other, asking, and answering questions.

3. When (you) respond to a question by attacking the questioner, one thing and one thing only becomes clear: (You) are incapable of discussing the subject at the required level.

4. (Your) insults and demands therefore only serve to establish further your lack of credibility on the subject.

My instructors do not matter.

Let me try and explain why in the hopes you are actually a competent adult capable of critical thinking. According to your profile you have been doing Tai Chi for 15 years. First of all, I am just going to accept what you have said on your profile. Now, I will tell you, I have done Tai Chi for around twice as long as you have. So let's get into some kind of discussion over Tai Chi on here. And what ends up happening? (You) skirt the issue and attack (me) for -- asking questions?

I'm sorry but no one put you in charge of skill verification via video. And frankly, I am in fact a Tai Chi judge who has done internationals before. I've seen some of the videos people here have put out and I am horrified. I'm sorry if you don't like it but this discussion will close with the idea that it is exceedingly unlikely any of you here (except, maybe, one or two) are qualified to judge me or anything I do. Really, some of you people here need a reality check. Fortunately or unfortunately I really don't care, about anything, so feel free to get on with your lives. Somehow though, I don't think that is going to happen and you will continue to avoid discussing issues on these forums.

I don't know how else to explain it to you. If you are incapable of having a conversation about the art at the given level don't try to participate by being insulting and making demands. The very fact that you do that discredits you immediately because there is no time for antics like that. You have to understand, that what "put up or shut up" means, is, if you can't actually talk about tai chi then I feel no particular need to talk to you.

One other thing, starting a thread with my name on it is an incredibly rude and aggressive thing to do. You are right that people have posted videos of themselves online and hey -- ppl just put themselves out there-- no one is a master -- were just talking, sharing, and having fun -- someone like you comes along and makes a roast thread, man, that is really uncool. I could tear some people here a new asshole based on the videos they have posted but why bother? Doing that is mean and cruel, and totally against the spirit of coming together and sharing and being friends. That is what you did here Ian. It doesn't look good on you. I don't know what else to say.

This is a perfect example of what I was talking about with Ian above. Graham, I am sorry you quit Tai Chi for something else and I am sorry you don't understand some of the stuff I am talking about. But why are you here? It is really fine and dandy that you don't do Tai Chi anymore, but do you realize what a giant chip you are carrying around on your shoulder when you criticize someone who is working hard on their Tai Chi?

I look at someone like you and I think, my god, the emotional hell you must have gone through when you realized you wasted so much time in Tai Chi. Now, I'm the one paying for it. Sigh... Look dude. You, Ian, and anyone else: If you don't know what you are talking about the best way to let everyone know is to barge in with all guns blazing and be a total ass. If there was anything factually or even hypothetically wrong with what I have said I would have been corrected long ago. Instead, I get attitude from people who obviously can't respond to the questions and comments I have raised in the first place. Take Yeung as an example of a good poster. He raises interesting issues and does not crumble when he's pressed a little. I enjoyed reading his posts. I can even admit that maybe he is right. There's no bad blood between us. Why would there be? But you.. I have to ask, do you ever post anything here besides insulting others?

It's no crime not to know something. I'm only a beginner myself. But you guys seriously need to tone it down. You are ruining any last straw of goodness there might be on this forum. Take a deep breath, take a nap or something. Respond to this tomorrow or not at all. Stop being so hot headed about everything.

Hi Appledog, I don't like getting involved, but to say that you are horrified of other peoples video's and not put up your own seems kind-of selfish?

I am not a mod here, so this is just my opinion: while there shouldn't be personal attacks only, newcomers would be wise to read the REST of the FAQs first before walking into the bar and acting like everyone else is an idiot. For example (my emphases):

FAQ03: What is the best way for new members to introduce themselves to the RSF community?
After registering, post some info about your training background and who you have studied with in the Xingyiquan - Baguazhang - Taijiquan section of the forum. Post to the thread here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=84

FAQ04: What attitude should I have on RSF?
Whether you agree or disagree with someone, never get into personal attack.

Keep a light mood, don't get too serious, and don't try to be a smartass if you're a n00b. Meet the people, search around before making judgements, and you'll blend in.
Don't try to come here expecting everyone to kiss your ass, or trying to show us the errors of our ways and the perfection of yours.
Think of RSF as a bar, a club where members are having a few drinks and discussing topics and joking around. Think of the admins and mods as bouncers that drink with you, even do a little dance but will not hesitate to grab you by the neck and kick you out if you don't follow the rules.

What horrifies me is not that someone can be good or bad at martial arts. What horrifies me is the incomprehensible desire to be a jerk towards other people -- considering the fact that these people really should be aware they can't participate in certain discussions. But they choose to anyways -- any way they can, including by being jerks. Look at yourself and how you responded earlier. Are you some kind of Tai Chi master? Do you have 100 or 1000 students? Can you feel your chi? Well you know, you kind of owe me an answer on that one, don't you think? You were a bit rude and then dodged out. I'm too old willie, to chase you for an answer.

So you chose not to discuss the subject. That was your choice. It doesn't mean I have to verify who I am with you before we can have a discussion. I just come here to be friends and talk about tai chi. If you want to talk people down you will find that talking me down is very easy. I'll just stop.

I am beginning to suspect that everyone on this forum is completely insane.. On another topic, have you ever had the chance to meet Lady Whitesnake?

"Feng claimed that the stories of ordinary people were more valuable than were those of the elite and pious. He argues that all fiction falls within the grand tradition of historiography, in which stories encapsulate the legacies of cultural heroes and demons as well as enduring social and moral teachings of their time. A story’s revision is a nostalgic look back, but also an invitation to look inward at the present shape of our own values and forward toward our relationships to the world around us."

Apple dog,

The fact you think I stopped doing tai chi just proves you don't know anything. We've all been here a long time on this forum - people like you come and go.

Time to go, I think.
