Mandarin

The inventor of the pin yin system died recently, this is a reminder that it was a fairly recent innovation. As a non speaker with a vocabulary of a few dozen words but an awareness of the structure of Mandarin I am interested in what Mandarin speakers have to say about the following blog. Personally I found the baw paw maw fa system helpful in pronunciation[not mentioned here] , it seems a trifle dismissive of the western romanisations

yes it would be nice to have a link ;)

Regarding the two systems I've actually studied both
due to my focus on IMA/CMA never really put in the time to master much of it other
then the most basic things needed in living in China or Taiwan.

I would look at the focus and aim of each...The Bopomofo system seems to be based partially on teaching the
strokes used in writing traditional Chinese.

The Pinyin, used in mainland China based on romanization model
making it more english friendly for us non native speakers. Allowing native speakers to get used to seeing another style/type of
writing maybe helping them in learning English.

The mainland using simplified Chinese may not feel a need to create what amounts
to another system teaching writing strokes..

Interesting in reading you found the bopomofo easier then the pinyin, I found the opposite.

Just my 2 rmb, NT :P
