I was checking on Luther Vandross 'A house is not a....' when I noticed another recording, Jacob Lusk from American Idol 10. Checked it out and found this guy was a phenomenon, maybe better than Vandross. Again checked his performance on Idol, found that on the panel Steve Tyler and JLo were also blown away by his performance. Bu here's the kicker, he came 5th, behind a 17 year old C&W singer who was good but not exceptional[judged by the gold standard of the Outlaws, willie etc]
Then I remembered why I didn't watch Idol after the first couple of seasons, many highly talented performers, more often or not black singers were voted out by presumably heartland America. Anyway here is the recording

Did you happen to catch Black Mirror, Season 1, Ep 2 that touches on the American Idol (Brit version) phenomenon? Kind of puts things in perspective.
