martial arts movies?

Rum, beer, movies, nice websites, gaming, etc., without interrupting the flow of martial threads.

What about the John Wick flicks? Afa philosophical, how about Ruruoni Kenshin?
An oldie not mentioned is Lone Wolf and Cub.

And after y'all watched all (or most) of the various flicks suggested above, make sure to pay proper tribute to "Kung Pow - Enter The Fist". It's the awesomest of them all by far (but only if you're familiar enough with the genre). -bow-

I am looking for movies with atmosphere, a meditative quality, some attempt at the philosophy behind martial arts or that are at least stylish.
I think the last good movies in that vein where the Kenshin movies.

From your description maybe? . . .

The Assassin (2015)

The opposite, however doco with top professionals expressing their view/philosophy on fighting.

The Hurt Business (2016):

For the really hardcore Wuxia fans there are some series with 40 plus episodes, they have some very sophisticated special effects
SWORDS OF LEGEND STRANGE HERO[50 EPISODES]
DEMI GODS AND SEMI DEVILS[50 EPS]
THE SPIRIT OF THE SWORD [40 EPISODES]
Steve, I had one of the pushcart series on my list, but would particularly recommend the last series for its sword duels and insight into the 'samurai' mentality
Incidentally in Nov 2004 Tom gave an interesting post on Wuxia-not sure if it is in the archives

A lot of good MA movies been mentioned here. But hey what about Karate Kid 1-2, Big Trouble in Little China......seriously. And the two outstanding C,Norris films- A Force of One & The Octagon....classy classics......seriously again. For more recently- many of Donnie Yen's movies for the last 10-15 yrs are pretty good. And something I watched quite recently that was very good was a Miyamoto Musashi two part TV series from 2014....super cool, but I guess that one is not easy to find outside Asia.

I even remember >super throw< Yama arashi used there as the main weapon.
