It looks to me that both sides are being drawn into the same swamp if the Russian dossier was ginned up in order to get a FISA order to secretly surveille the Trump campaign through Manafort it could lead to indictments all around.

Depends on what's in the dossier. But, it was a conservative group that started the process. Any, the claim was that no one in the campaign met with Russians. Manafort was the manager. So, it was a lie. And, Trump himself said that digging up dirt on political opponents was normal. That's how he legitimized Jared and all meeting with the Russian lawyer. Anyway, it can't be just about meeting, otherwise everyone on team Trump would be indicted.

Statement from Manafort's lawyer:

President Donald Trump was correct. There is no evidence the Trump Campaign colluded with the Russia government.

Mr. Manafort represented pro-European Union campaigns for the Ukrainians and in the course of that representation he was seeking to further democracy and to help the Ukrainians come closer to the United States and to the EU. Those activities ended in 2014, two years before Mr. Manafort served in the Trump Campaign.

Today you see an indictment brought by the Office of Special Counsel that is using a very novel theory to prosecute Mr. Manafort regarding a FARA filing. The United States government has only used that offense six times since 1966 and only resulted in one conviction.

The second thing about this indictment that I, myself, find most ridiculous is a claim that maintaining offshore accounts to bring all your funds into the United States, as a scheme to conceal from the United States government, is ridiculous.

They have an indictment so we'll see what happens, but two things that stand out to me are still the appearance of using Manafort to get a FISA warrant that was used to do surveillance on the Trump campaign, which Trump's team made noise about, as if the information gathered may have been leaked to their disadvantage so obviously they knew something was going on. The second thing is about the time frame for Manafort's alleged crimes happening two years before he joined Trump.
