I think I first noticed RT change its tone significantly in 2014 when it appeared to be accentuating social tensions and racial divides in the USA, but it appeared to me they were promoting the left while doing so. I took it as a tit-for-tat for all the on the ground interference USA consular officials and NGO were doing on the streets of Moscow and Kiev, as well as the US ambassador to Syria joining in with street protests against the Assad govt.

Let's say the Russian govt bought ads with the intention of influencing the US election, which I'm certainly against (as I am also against all of the influence the US exerts on other nations' elections around the world): (1) Did it have any effect? (2) Was it illegal? (3) Was it immoral?

It was effective to the extent it increased hostility between Americans and promoted divisions that already existed.

Moral? All is fair in love and war. However, in Russia, the state controls the media and journalists who oppose the state have been found dead. Of course, we used to broadcast "Radio Free America" in order to influence the old Soviet Union. So, it's not a legal question. I'm sure we have cyber ops ongoing. The point was that the Russian attacks were encouraged by a candidate who consistently denied it had been done, although it only benefited him.

Another effect was the destruction of confidence in the electoral system -which had been the world's most respected. Of course, the Russians didn't cause that. But their candidate stated that the system was rigged. That assertion almost ensured the likelihood of violence had he lost.

They hooked one of my good friends that way. He is an extreme leftist and was convinced that Putin was a good guy.

Thanks for art Jimmy. I am semi-vegetarian and usually only eat meat once a day. I have chosen this diet for my health but the longer I eat this way the more I realize how people eat far more meat than they need.
