Brave new world.

Now, let's see what they do with these creations.

It might lead to a cloned Charlon Heston walks along a beach and finds the Liberty statue buried in the sand.

I don't think Planet of the Apes can handle the zombie apocalypse or Skynet, though.

First, I'm really interested to see what they think is ethical to do with and to these clones. We know they'll experiment on the originals. Remember we were talking about meeting aliens or intelligent life? Well, if we found monkeys on Mars, would we consider them intelligent?

The other, natural, question is who will be the first human clone. Will the same rules apply? Could some rich person have a clone made for spare organ parts?

Anyway, it's not a new thought:

Skynet is the actual name of the Chinese surveillance program that uses street cameras and other electronics to monitor people in real time.

One of the very few Michael Bay movies I ever liked (because of Scarlett and the plot idea) talked about this very thing...

An Italian surgeon recently claimed a successful head transplant performed on cadavers in China and says live victims patients will be coming soon.

Reconstructing, adding to or some kind of tampering of our DNA might be a must for humans if we are going to survive deep space travels.in the near future, read somewhere........Some theorize that in the Judeo-Christian creation myth where God/Gods create us in their image ("Then God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.") might be a story about humanoid space farer's reconstructing the gene pool of an early Homo species on this planet, and now we are continuing with this tradition....Humans seem to have had this "dream" of creating new pieces since the earliest civilazations, look at creatures such as Sphinxes in Babylonian, Egyptian and Greek cultures, the Centaur, Minotaur, Satyr, Sirens and so on.

I agree that genetic manipulation might be necessary for long term human space travel. However, we already know that living in space alters dna. See the "Twin study."

I think human-animal hybrids are a product of human imagination. But, it's certainly possible that dna was once alien to the planet. Otoh, dna is specific to all living things, not humans. And human dna is nowhere near the most complex. There is a flower that is 50 times more complex.

As Swift pointed out, if horses had a god, it would whinny.

Not hybrids but chimera, from the Wiki - "In August 2003, researchers at the Shanghai Second Medical University in China reported that they had successfully fused human skin cells and rabbit ova to create the first human chimeric embryos. The embryos were allowed to develop for several days in a laboratory setting, then destroyed to harvest the resulting stem cells.[22] In 2007, scientists at the University of Nevada School of Medicine created a sheep whose blood contained 15% human cells and 85% sheep cells.[23]". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimera_(genetics) Maybe not long till we create actual hybrids

Also - "Issues relating to possible human-animal hybrids outside of a fictional, historical, or mythic context but as real, engineered beings received major international attention in 2003, after some Chinese scientists at the Shanghai Second Medical University managed to successfully fuse human cells with rabbit eggs. The embryos formed reportedly were the first stable human-animal chimeras in existence. Research in similar areas continued into 2004 and 2005, with the topic picking up coverage from publications such as National Geographic News. The National Academy of Sciences soon began to look into the ethical questions involved.[5] The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office additionally stirred interest into the topic by granting a patent request for a genetically modified mouse with a human immune system.[9] Scientists announced in 2017 that they successfully created the first human-animal chimeric embryo. The embryo consisted mostly pig cells and some human cells. Scientists stated that they hope to use this technology to address the shortage of donor organs.[24]". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human–animal_hybrid

Still, nothing to do with aliens or "alien" life forms. Any alien life form will either be based on dna or not. Human manipulation of genes --to create clones-- goes back at least to the early 90s.

There are human beings who are naturally chimeric, and have more than one set of dna.

Afa human/animal chimera, everything depends on exactly what someone means. Creating human embryos by combining human and animal dna is interesting. However, creating them to harvest organs --aopt stem cells-- adds another level of controversy, but is a different ethical issue.

For ex., if it becomes to grow a human organ inside of an animal --such as a pig, it wouldn't be unethical to harvest that organ. Otoh, suppose a pig could be used as a surrogate for a human embryo, would it be ethical to harvest the embryonic organs?
