I know where you're coming from Simon! I try and think about stuff like snow skiing instead.

There are vipisanna centers all over the place, including Hong Kong and near Dallas, my hometown, which actually has a pretty sweet meditation center with tons of private rooms.

A friend of mines husband has ALS (lou gherrig syndrome). He did a 10 day retreat a few months ago while he was still able in order to prepare for the stage of his disease where he would essentially be trapped in his body. I'm not sure if it was Vipassana but it sounds like what he talked about.
