about FUCKING time!!!!!!!!

ummm... edit: "14 December Update:
In a recent update GRRM confirmed that he hopes to finish the book 'soon', and in an interview with Pat's Fantasy Hotlist he reiterated his commitment to finishing the book in 2 more volumes after ADWD. However, at the same time and according to Amazon, Bantam has moved the US publishing date for the book to late 2009. Whether this is a hedging the bets maneuver or is based on harder information is not yet known. Voyager are sticking with April 2009 as their guesstimated release date for the book in the UK, but again this is not official until GRRM confirms the book's completion." This is from the 'Westernos" aSoIaF forum

amazon UK says the release date is 10/4/09.... I hope so, I have been hanginf for this book for years....

I am not familiar with the author (haven't read fantasy novels in years), so I searched on Amazon and see that one of his books (A Game of Thrones) has 1,521 reviews with a 4-1/2 star rating! :o Maybe I should pick it up...anyone have any recommendations to share about this author for a newbie like myself?

unlike robert jordan's unending saga, george r r martin (those are the right middle initials for a fantasy author) writes a story that moves, and characters that actually grow, live, and die.

the series so far is:
a game of thrones
a clash of kings
a storm of swords
a feast for crows
a dance with dragons (coming soon)

Cool, thanks for the info. Maybe I'll check out the first book.

the series is so realistic that there are scenes where the characters piss, have sex, see people's guts spilling out of their abdomen, etc.
really detailed and good writing.

Terrific, just what I look for in a novel: A realistic pissing scene.

Tolstoy! You just didn't have it, did you?

I actually hope that he brings the series to a close. I am not a big fan on the unending sagas. I much prefer series that achieve closure.

oh I get the feeling martin will actually finish his story sometime. given the number of likable main characters he has killed off, I don't think he's shy about ending things.

and about the Game of Thrones TV series... FRICKIN SWEET! you can actually do the book justice with a TV series. not a movie fo sho.

It was you guys here (maybe LeoV in particular) who introduced me to this series. Now I've read it and introduced it to my dad, and he's read it twice! I'll have to read them all again before I read A Dance with Dragons, because it's so complex that I've forgotten the details.

You people just made me buy the first 4 books.

Wanted to just get the 1st, but went to Amazon and they have a promo + free shipping so I got all 4 as follows:
Items: $31.96
Shipping & Handling: $6.96
Best Value Savings: -$0.40
4-for-3 Promotion: -$7.99
Super Saver Discount: -$6.96

Total Before Tax: $23.57
Estimated Tax: $0.00
Order Total: $23.57

Which I thought was a pretty damn good deal, for 4 new books (instead of the "standard" total of $38.92)

Just FYI

Anyway... thanks for the info.
