Anyone have experience with this, or know of something similar?

From what I've seen it's a more formalised / lite version of systema type breathing. Probably better than Wim Hof, depending on the practitioner.

Yeah Wim Hof, I never even wanted to try it, just doesn’t seem right given what I know.

The Buteyko method does seem to do something though.

The guy who introduced to Australia back in the 70’s was Dr Peter Welch
I trained Wu style alongside Peter he made me my first wooden broadsword
I know if Peter thought it was worth promoting it was worthwhile
Never practiced it due to the fact my internal arts covered all the breathing methods I needed

20 years ago when I was working in clinical research, Buteyko Method was seen as one way to decrease /mitigate many chest (upper jiao) breathing/congestion/stagnation
but it still has a small circle of adherents. People prefer to take the many medication (as good they are to prevent one thing or decrease current symptom presentation ) but that creates other problems that they refuse to comprehend i.e. the adverse events associated with taking x medications.
Buteyko Method requires self training over time to correct upper jiao (chest complex /diaphragm integration) 'stagnation' 'blockage' etc and the many refuse to
undertake those measure they have to work with and on for reversal of their chronic illness.

seems nice. It reminded me a bit of some of the diving breath holding exercises that I have done as well as some of the breathing my yoga teacher has us doing.

I learned about Buteyko breathing recently from Patrick McKeown. https://buteykoclinic.com/ - He has a Youtube channel called Oxygen Advantage. There is also a cool app you can install on your phone by the same name. You can record what he calls your BOLT score, which is a baseline measurement of how well you do nasal breathing in this method. There are guided exercises you can follow along with on the app to improve your BOLT score. It worked really well for me, but sometimes I get so busy that breathing exercises take a back seat to everything else. They did help me sleep better and probably cut down on my snoring. The exercises are very easy to do and effective. I just don't prioritize them as much as I probably should with some sleep apnea problems that I have.

The diving thing reminded me of a student who was teaching in England
One student was a professional diver
He found that after using our method he was getting twice as long out of a tank of air
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form
