see you in a couple of weeks.

Rum, beer, movies, nice websites, gaming, etc., without interrupting the flow of martial threads.

oh and pay some respex at sanjuusangendo for me too, with the 999 kannon bodhisattvas. musashi had a famous duel there with like 3 people at once.
they still have daikyuu competitions there yearly. and also go to kiyomizu temple and drink from one of the 3 spouts of water. one is intelligence, one is health, one is beauty. You probably need the first or third the most... but do what you will :D.

those were my 2 favorite spots in kyoto. kinkakuji and ginkakuji were overrated. pretty, but overrated. the daibutsu in nara was badass, and not too far from kyoto. you get to see the famous (and annoying) bowing deer at nara too.

hahah I don't follow that pinyin "standard". I don't like calling Chen Fa Ke teh Fake. :D

Well, spacing in Romanization is another story (a big topic for Sinologists), but I don't think you are writing in Wade-Giles or Yale, either... ;)

But what are the "bowing deer" of Nara? I remember evil, senbei-chomping deer, but they sure never bowed to me...

I had a good time and my research went well.
Also meeting Ed was a real highlight.
Talking to Dan on the phone was good too because I got to hear how calm and collected he is (he sounds like he has his shit totally together and is truly relaxed :D ), I wish that I could have met him and feel really bad that I missed him on the day we were supposed to meet.
Tokyo was cool in that there was lots of neat commercial type stuff to see, kids cosplaying was also a highlight, and of course getting kicked out of the Meiji shrine was also cool.

Kyoto was gorgeous and I really liked it. Saw lots of old castles and shrines and met some funky people.

Of course the plane ride sucked both ways and the plane food was terrible. OTOH the Japanese food in Tokyo was possibly the most enjoyable eating experiences I have ever had (and even freshness burger was pretty good).

There was lots of other cool shit.
I'm really hoping I get to go back and teach English in 2010, that would be great!

If you have time try to check out Upyu's teacher Akuzawa Minoru.

It would be interesting to see some internal JMA.
