Using Proxies from the Middle Kingdom

Postby tdprater on Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:20 am

Hi!

Just wanted to share a website that I use to access those blocked (youtube mainly) and has been fairly reliable.

www.kproxy.com

A few things to note:

-The server overloads from time to time, but as long as you keep trying, you should be able to use it fairly quickly
-Depending on your browser, you may get a pop-up ad or two. Nothing too major in my experience
-Youtube comes up in French. There'll be an option for you to change to English, you have to press the button that says "Annular", whatever that means, and that'll fix it for that browsing session.

Most of the other proxies that I had used, such as anonymouse, ibypass, and iamunblocked, have been blocked, so if you guys know of others, then hope you can share!

Best thing I have found was the search string "youtube proxy" or "youtube unblocker".

I've found that most of the proxies will show blocked pages but their server doesn't have flash installed or some dumb thing so I can still not get youtube. Then the others keep coming and going. The only one that has been really reliable for me is youtubeproxy.org but you can only watch 1 or 2 vids a day unless you pay for a subscription.

This one has worked for me most of the time though: http://18surf.info/

kproxy no longer works for me but I've found a couple new ones that do. The main problem is that although there are TONS of proxy services and anonymizers out there, the vast majority do not support youtube. You get the page but you get it with a notice saying that you need to install the latest flash to watch the video. I guess the guys running the servers are running them on pretty bare bones installations.

Anyways, dug up a couple more that work:

Anybody used Hotspotshield? Supposed to be a free VPN service.

Where did you hear about that thing? I'm using it now and it actually works. Fucking great. Totally sweet.

Hotspot Shield is working. The best part is that embedded youtube videos can be shown. You rock, Michael -rock-

I got it from fellow RSF member, the very helpful Mister yzp. The Hotspotshield web site is pretty low key, too. So did it phish all your bank passwords yet and sign you up for gay porn newsletters or anything? No? Well, I guess I'll have to try it.

I think it's paid for by advertising. You are forced to click on at least one link to start your browsing sessions and it places and extra add banner across the top of every page so I lose the top inch of my browsing window. Considering that it handles embedded youtube so well I'd say BFD to the ads.

Great find yzp. I saw where he introduced it on some other non-related thread.

During the install?

I don't remember connection even being a part of the install. My memory of it is that I just kept clicking "next" untill it said I was done. I thought the connection part was only after you launched the program....

In any case, http://www.moep.us/ still seems to be working for me. Sometimes I use it instead of hotspot because I don't want to slow down the loading of my chinese web pages. When I'm operating under hotspotshield, connection to baidu.com and all the associated vidoes slows dramatically.

Yeah, it's not working on my computer at work nor at home. 18surf.info looks to have sold out, but to be fair I haven't checked out any of the proxies being advertised.

Oh, for youtube, you can also use a proxy to go to keepvid.com and plug in the youtube video URL, get a download link which has a googlevideo.com address, and then download it without any problems. I have to use TOR for the keepvid part, though, which is weird.
