anyone have one of these? I'm considering buying it, but $180 is kinda pricey, and I lose umbrellas all the time.

I'd imagine you would be more mindful of a $180 umbrella, though, as compared to a regular $15 one.

I would be very interested to see if the umbrella (cloth part) actually stays intact after long use, not just a few minutes on a heavy bag.

I have one it's good, but expensive for what it is- I like mine, have the stright handled one. BPW err I mean Joe- is right about the fabric-I wish the fabric was more heavy duty and the handle was a bit longer. If I baught again I would get the crooked handle version.

You can beat hell out of a heavy bag with one with no ill efffects on it ( at least mine will)

I saw a 'combat umbrella' years ago (English made?) made with with a heavy wood, a part brass handle and heavy water proof canvas fabric, did not buy really wish I had.

So Chanchu, does that mean the fabric started to break/tear after some use, effectively making it just a strong cane and useless as an umbrella?

the guys that brought me to china had an umbrella factory that made an unbreakable umbrella - the last umbrella you'll ever need to buy. Lifetime warranteed. I've send him a link to the youtube listing to see if he's tried standing on it like that. We were selling their umbrellas RETAIL at $40 in stores in North America. If you guys are interested, I can get a case of these things (a few dozen) shipped out at a hugely discounted price (provided they are still stocking them at their warehouse).

Joe,

No umbrella did not rip the fabric is intact it held up good, I just wish it was more heavy duty for longevity. when bashing the bag held up very well it did not rip or show wear- and still functions as a umbrella.

As I said it's a good product- bit pricy- just wish the handle was longer and heavier fabric for longevity.

Would buy another one but would get the crooked handle one next time.

My inspiration for buying this umbrella, esp one with a hook, has always been this scene from Once Upon a Time in China. Start watching at about 1:00 min in.

Hey, that was my first teacher! Crazy seeing her footage from way back when, thanks.

Wish I learned the umbrella form before she went to the west coast, though from what I recall it was said to mainly be a big mix of broadsword, jian and a few tailored for the handle/hook moves.
