I use them. I highly recommend starting with lighter weights and working your way up. Build up the shoulder and wrist strength slowly and along different vectors.

I have two 5 pound clubs that I bought from Purple Heart Armory some years back. 22 inches

I also made a pair of 10 pounds clubs out of wooden curtain rods, cement, and large whiffle bats for the mold. 28 inches

I also made a 15 pound mace/gada out of curtain rod, cement and a small Sponge Bob ball. 53 inches
see http://maxwellsc.blogspot.com/2008/10/gitchy-gitchy-gada-ya-ya.html for instructional as well as his rationale for using lighter weights for higher reps

LOL, Shawn. A friend and I are growing out moustaches in honor of our southern Italian heritages. A handlebar might just be in the works.

Not too sure about the tigerskin loincloth.

..you are so gonna get ass kicked when i manage to drag my half indian ass over to the west coast.. :P

..childrens baseball bats make a great substitute for clubs .. they are cheap enough to see if you like the feeling ... i picked up a pair from a 1£ /1$ shop...
