csv and xml are flat files with text.
csv = comma separated values. This is just a handy way of importing and exporting data to a flat file that can be used later.
xml = extensible markup language and is a straight up txt file that can be used by other programs to pull data in based on tags.
if you open either of teh files, you will be able to read the contents quite readily.
