I was amazed at the lack of attention those two nuclear "blunders" received from the press last year, including here in China. There is simply no underestimating the seriousness of what happened and no way to deny that they were *not* blunders. There are too many safeguards in place for those to have been simple mistakes, IMO. Just about anything is possible, but this was truly incredible.

Maybe Gates read the above article..

The Air Force has alot of leadership and direction problems now- they went far to "corporate" and are trying to find there way back from WWIII conventional thinking to a asymetrical "War Fighter" mentality.

Gates is a good man doing the right things to fix the problems- hope it will work...

They are crying over a case of M-16? I have seen Vietnam Vets with cases of HAND GRENADES in thier basements. This kind of thing has been going on in the military forever.

Yeah cases of grenades in the basement- thats one reason why the GI's in the sand box don't get many frags issued to them any more.

Just had a jar head down south get fined 100 bucks for bringing a AK back as a keep sake- no biggie to me either...

Now they say as many as 1000 pieces of inventory for nuclear warheads are missing.

We are often told by the government how incompetent they are, that they're just a bunch of bumbling idiots and that's why they lose nuclear parts, buy toilet seats for $700, or fail to act on their own internal reports to arrest 911 terrorists inside the country, but it's just misleading statements. They take care of their priorities, and nuclear warheads are a priority. I don't think these missing parts are any more of an accident than the six live warheads being flown from South Dakota to Louisiana were.

Well the problem is no effective oversite... It is incompetance and a lack of willingness to correct the problems "don't tell us as then we will have to do somethiong about it."

No plot except for the plot to be allowed to continue "biz as usual"

Gates is a good man trying to fix the problem- but his term is limited and resistance to change is inbred and intrenched at the upper levels...

I really wish Col.Hackworth was alive he would be reading the talking dogs the riot act... big time

RIP Sir!

I really hope the next president will keep Gate's on... and he will continue to kick ass.
