Spoiler!!!

Well, so much for the idea that technique will ALWAYS beat size. Looks like more than a combat sport is needed to handle a guy like Brock.

Had to laugh at the group of old and obese security guards that came out after Brock won and was still pissed. As if they were going to do anything.

Who watched the fight last night? Lesnar is a red neck hillbilly fuck and should go back to his roots as an All Star wrestler. I thought the UFC was trying to get away from that image not embrace it. I felt like i was watching the WWE during Lesnars post fight interview. One of the cornerstones of MMA is the sportsmanship and respect that the fighters show for each other and the fans, who made the sport what it is today. Lesnar is a kink in the evolutionary chain, sometimes the biggest are not meant to survive.

People said the same thing after he beat Couture. Anyway, Mir was not really respectful towards Lesnar after the last bout or before this one. Afa MMA v. WWE, I thought the saying used to be " but Royce would choke him out." If he's just the big, burly brute with no skills, then he should be the easiest to handle for MMA guys (and ima guys too).

Well Lesnar settled that. The dudes got plenty enough skill to do what matters. He needs to fight people his own size though.

The back ground for Brock, as far as his culture and his career in the WWE, is evidently a source for content with a lot of people. I really don't care that much about a fighters back ground and hope they (whoever they are) challenge other fighters and hopefully progress in their own right. I think Diego Sanchez would be a great example of a fighter challenging and improving. In the case of Brock, he is defiantly challenging his category, and I have to view his wrestling skills in complement to his size. Think of Choi and how his size affects his performance, also in comparison look at Tim Silvia. Tim was eventually exposed for his lack of skills and desire to progress as a fighter. Right now Brock is challenging other fighters and time will tell the outcome.
Unfortunately because of Dana White’s stance on Fedor, Brock would have to go outside his UFC contract to fight him.

Apparntly not,
Dana is going to pursue a contract with Fedor (who's contract is up with affliction after the Barnette fight).

even Fedor is probably not big enough to deal with the massive size and strength difference. 220 lbs vs. maybe 290. hong man choi wasn't allowed to throw knees and doesn't have the wrestling of brock.

Aw, c'mon, you guys must be kidding. How come all of a sudden size means everything? Doesn't everybody know some 120lb Asian master who would just wipe up the floor with Lesnar?

But, seriously folks, in a contest of size, strength, speed, skill and will, it's the person with the best combination of all those elements who will probably win. Lesnar is big, fast and strong, and he's skillful "enough" and wants to win "enough" that it will take someone with a better combination of those qualities to beat him. He's been beaten before. The hype about his size or Neanderthalness is good for business. Sooner or later, he'll face an opponent with "enough" of the qualities needed to beat him. Hey, he couldn't have beaten Andre the Giant in his prime ... or probably ever.

lol yes possibly carwin or fedor could beat him. obviously mir beat him before. it's just ridiculous he's got freakish size strength and explosiveness plus great wrestling.

A couple of odd things:

1. in rd 2, Brock took Mir down, but then didn't do gnp for some reason and let Mir get up.
2. Mir then was attacking and moving well, but shouldn't have fought at such close quarters in standup despite having a chance to throw those knees. that is when Brock just took him down at will again. if Brock was letting Mir up, why get overeager and lose his disciplined footwork approach he claimed he would use?

obviously Fedor is much better than Mir and doesn't make the same errors of commission (such as fighting emotionally instead of intelligently) or omission (one of the reasons he is so much better than everyone) but the thing about Lesnar is his gnp looked really skilled this time - kept his weight right on Mir, was more focused on good position and then good aim and power. Fedor would do a lot better avoiding and escaping that in the first place but I still fear for any lighter heavyweight facing Lesnar's power.

oh also Machida said he aspires to fight Lesnar. Let him go for it! He actually has the footwork and discipline I hoped Mir would show.

Andre the Giant FTW

Come to it, Frank fucked up.
He did not scramble and work on the ground like he needed to and he rushed his stand up into a corner and got taken down.
frank did not pace the fight and brock did.
Skills are great, but you need a game plan and you need to implement. Just look at St.Pierre's fight, he did just that.
