A lot of good stuff here on the subject. Basically forgiveness is a noble and very self healing institution for letting go of things. If you feel wronged by someone or some group and there is nothing you can do about it, let it go. Forgive them sincerely and you will free yourself to move on. If someone or some group is consistently transgressing against you and you find yourself forgiving and making excuses for them, then you are a doormat. Change your ways.

Yeah, imo, forgiveness is not something you give to someone else; it's something you give to yourself. Mercy, otoh, is something you give to someone else.
