Keep in mind it was a kettlebell cert, not a MA seminar. So xingyi wasn't the point. But you could see it every time Steve moved.
One example, he used the hip bump from the kettlebell jerk to throw a guy straight up in the air. When I did it, it looked more like a hip bump used in judo for a hip throw. So he looked at me and said, "Think of it as a kua strike." Direct quote. I then got the technique.
I listened to him over the course of the cert and Steve was always making reference to his xingyi training when teaching the kettlebells. It's just part of who he is, I think.
We also learned their qigong set and practiced it about a dozen times. Steve's IKFF is doing some very cool things with IMA, bodyweight training, and kettlebells. They know that these things exist on a continuum and all have their place, they are not totally contradictory.
I like his system because I can intuitively understand it since he and I share similar backgrounds. I also teach my kettlebell classes with an eye towards martial power for those that are interested in it. Again, there are many, many similarities between the two.
If you're interested, you should come check it out.
