7 years - slave in a box!

Most of you may have heard the story of a young woman that was a slave in a box for 7 years. Crime Library call her Carol Smith, even though the name is not real, I will use that name too. Its a fascinating, well known story. Although hitchiking was a part of life in the 1970's, poor Carol had no idea what she was about to accept, when she got into a car with a man that had no intentions on killing her, just keeping her, for 7 whole years! Some would say...that was worse than dying!

Carol just decided one day to hitchike to her friends, to wish her a happy birthday. She had no money for bus and had hitchiked before. She got almost all the way and had a good feeling about people, she rejected a few rides that looked 'fishy'. When a truck pulled up with a woman, man and baby inside, the young couple seemed friendly, so Carol thought things were safe. Shortly after being in the car, the man began 'checking her out' in the review mirror. Then when they pulled over for gas, she wanted to run but she thought his wife would make things different. So she kept going with them and they gave her a candy bar.

The couple then decided to see a few ice caves that were nearby. Carol agreed it was fine and they drove down a road that led to nowhere. The wife seemed to know what was going on somehow. The car was then stopped, Carol was threatened with a nice and she was blind folded and gagged. A box was then fitted over her head that made it hard to breath and it nearly choked her. It was insulated inside and fitted snug over her whole head. With this on, she couldnt see, eat, talk and barely breath. She then felt something get wrapped over her and she heard the car start again. They were moving.

Finally they stopped for some food and then stopped again at a house. The man took the box off her head after they were inside and they led her down some steps to a basement. They made her stand on a box while she was still blind folded. They then stripped her of her clothing. He tied her up at her wrists and then kicked the box away so she hung from the rope on her wrists. He left her there for some time and didnt complain too much when she screamed. He seemed calm.

When he returned he began to whip her with a whip and her blind fold came off just enough for her to see a dirty magazine on the floor in front of her. The picture was of a woman, suspended like she was, in ropes from the ceiling. While she yelped in pain, he kept whipping her. His wife came in the room, as excited as he was, and they did things in front of her she never believed possible. She couldnt believe any of this was happening.

He left her in another box, a larger one but she couldnt move. He then put the box on her head again and she was left there all night.

The couple that had abucted her did not stand out in society. What appeared to be a young family starting out with a young child. He worked hard and the wife was very abliging to everything he wanted. They were known as Mr and Mrs Hooker. The husband had violent fantasies and was hooked on magazines and movies from a tender age. He began to ask his soon-to-be wife to do things, strange things and she seemed to have liked it. They married shortly later and she did whatever he asked. They say Mr Hooker tired of his wife doing everything he wanted and sort for new game. The wife wanted a baby and he wanted a slave. So they gave into one another and that is where Carol came into the picture.

Shortly after the baby was born, he made devices to keep his slave and soon later...he was prowling the streets for his slave.

When morning arrived for poor Carol she was scared and as confused as ever. She feared for her life and wondered whether they would kill her or not. She was hung, starved, put on a rack and moved around a little. She was given a bed pan and potatoes and water for dinner. She was frightened and he was unpredictable. Another 24 hours went by before he made her 2 sandwiches, she was full and couldnt eat the second one and he grew angry. She knew then to obey him, no matter what.

This became a regular thing. He beat her, left her alone and fed her once a day. She was scared, lonely and very very depressed. She wanted out but didnt know how. He kept her tied up all the time and didnt talk to her much to tell her what he might do with her.

Carol's family back home grew worried, they put out a missing persons when they found out she didnt arrive at her friends. They looked into Carols disappearance and looked into a few leads. Carols parents grew more and more concerned. They knew Carol would have contacted them. Police did what they could and slowly the parents grew less impatient. Not giving up, but certainly beginning to wonder if they would hear from her at all.

Back with Carol, she saw little of the wife and child. It was mostly him. She sent most of her days on a rack, naked, being whipped and often he took photos of them both together. Sometimes he dunked her head in water, sometimes until she was unconscious. He realised what chaining her up was doing to her though, so he made her a coffin like box to keep her in. That would keep her controlled and be less strainful on her limbs.

She lost a lot of weight, stopped being a woman in her cycles and she was never allowed to shower or clean herself up. He began to get worse as time went on, burning her, electrocuting her and sometimes touching her, he never actually slept with her though, not that it mattered.

Later he chained her up to a small space and asked her to shell nuts. This was pleasent for her as she got some freedom, she could move. She spent her birthday, christmas and new years in her box. Months passed and she had no idea when it was or when she would be set free.

The man found a 'contract' in a magazine he subscribed to. It was bogus but he made Carol think it was real and that he would kill her family if she didnt sign it. It gave him more control over her as she believed him, he said he would send it off and that she was legally his. She was led to believe that if she was not a good slave, that he would pass her off to a meaner master, one that would really hurt her.

This continued for 7 long years. The more she begged, the more he whipped. So she shut herself down, refused to show anything and kept strong day after day.

Carol was eventually allowed to do household chores but whenever he called 'attention' she was to strip, stand on her tippy toes and reach for the door frame so she was standing with her arms outstretched above her. She wore a collar and home made registration tag that she believed was from the slave company she was registered to.

Soon he brought her into the marriage bed. The wife went along with it at first but later left. That was the night that he went the full way with her, and continued to from that day forward. As her security came less, she got more freedom. But then they moved into a trailor park and she was confined to a smaller space under the bed. She was allowed out for an hour every day to wash, clean her bedpan and brush her teeth. She was watched carefully. The neighbours thought she was a babysitter and she even went jogging but always came back. She was generally pretty well behaved but occasionally she was naughty and he would electrocute her, which later left scars.

He grew worse as he peirced her parts and told her he wanted to have her children. She asked for a bible for christmas and she escaped into that. She was allowed to go out with the wife one year and watched the wife have an affair with another man. She was also asked to beg for money on the streets for the family and did so, never asking any of them to save her.

The wife grew jealous over time and Carol was sent back to her box. He tricked her and made her shoot a gun to her throat one day, but it wasnt loaded. He had that much power over her and he threatened her constantly. She wondered if anyone would notice her gone. She began to grow scared.

After 3 and a half years he let he see her family. She arranged the meeting and was delighted to see them. She didnt tell them that the man she had with her was a crazy man that kept her in a box, but her boyfriend. The family, just happy to see her and not wanted to scare her away for another load of years, were careful around her, and didnt ask too much. She met up with them again but was just too scared to tell them, he said he planted bombs in their houses and their cars and if she said a thing, he would know and kill them all. She believed him.

The next three years he confined her again. He grew less angry with her and her hair fell out and she lost more weight. He grew tired of her and started talking about new slaves, more slaves. Carol turned 27 and the wife grew more and more mad about the attention Carol was getting.

Both women joined a church and realised what they were doing was wrong. Well, the wife did anyway. She got advice and knew she couldnt keep Carol any longer. They arranged to sleep alone one night, and he agreed, she then told Carol everything, all about the lies. Once Carol realised she had nothing to fear she decided to leave. The women planned her escape.

She met the husband at the bus station and he cried as she left. He didnt try to stop her. She was going home! She kept in touch with the family even though at home and didnt tell them about what had happened. She was scared of the man and was scared he might do soemthing to her family. She refused to go back even when he begged. Finally she told her family and her family members began to taunt the Hooker family. Finally the wife left him and told the whole story to a receptionist at the doctors and then agreed to contact the police.

Police raided the trailor and found the contract that Carol signed. The family had destroyed most of the other evidence, but this was tucked away. The man was arrested and the truth came out. They found Carol and as much as some believed she wanted to stay there, the court was convinced she wanted revenge, so she was fit enough to stand trial and testify against him.

Police found all the torture devices in the other home and this was used as evidence also. The boxes confirmed Carols statement.

Out came the whole story. The jury just sat in shock as the whole thing came out. The boxes were used for demonstration, the wife gave vivid details and Carols scars said it all. Finally, the jury were to make a decision.

Cameron Hooker was found guilty of ten felony counts, including kidnapping, rape, and other sex offenses. As he listened, Cameron showed no emotion. (http://www.crimelibrary.com) All up, with all offences, he was looking at 104 years in jail! The women were happy, Carol was safe.

Although she may never be the same, she is at least at ease knowing he is away, in jail and not near her.

well, that definitely can't be mutated into a "dick in the box" tune mashup...

Because it is sick behaviour.

someone beat those people and burn their house down.
Coconuts. Bananas. Mangos. Rice. Beans. Water. It's good.

That must be the story of the girl who was kidnapped for 18 years and had 2 children with her abductor. Yeah that happened out here in Antioch. Those kids were living in the backyard. Neighbors called the police years ago but the police just told the guy that you cannot have kids living in the backyard.
