I don't know about Bowie knives but this looks like an excellent weapon:

there are a lot of really fine crafted Bowie knives out there.

SOG comes to mind for the under 300 and Strassburger for high quality stuff.

sog is here: http://sogknives.com/store/S10P.html

strassburger is here: http://www.strassburgerweb.com/bowie/
Coconuts. Bananas. Mangos. Rice. Beans. Water. It's good.

I don't believe in a "best" in that regard. Finding a decently sturdy, functional Bowie is one of the easiest things to do in the knife world. Pretty much every reputable manufacturer makes at least one. A bit like choosing a musical instrument, I recommend you visit a professional dealer and examine a few. Get a feel for what you prefer...overall weight, length, weight balance, blade thickness, sharpened or false back edge, etc.

You might also give some thought as to what exactly you expect this knife to do for you functionally. If you just want something handy on camping trips "just in case", you may choose something different than if you are hard on a knife and use it constantly for a myriad of tough-duty chores.

Cold steel makes three good ones trailmaster, laredo, natchez

Ontario production bagwell bowies are deadly looking fighting knives but some hate the steel they used 440 stainless?
The Ontario production Bagwell's are now no longer produced but you can still find some on line.

Best no can do subjective...

But many think Bill Bagell custom Bowies are that, for sure they at the top of any list- very pricy though..

If I had the money to spare i would have one--

Custom Bagwell bowies above.

If you google "Bill Bagwell Bowie's" lots of info will come up

What does that mean? You should explain this joke. I demand that you explain the meaning of this. Is it a joke? WHAT DO YOU MEAN?! Are you just trying to get attention?

ANyway, that was funny. Haven't thought about him and his busted hip in ages.

I second Darth, SOG makes some great knives. That being said, it depends on what you mean by best. Personally, I am fine with ka-bar, but if I have the cash I would go for the SOG or a cold steel.

Given that both of these cost about as much as the gun I have on my list though, they will have to wait. And of course they are all after my 100lb kwan dao...

Bah! Nothing but a bunch of girl guides' cutlery. Check out the John Hopkins thread (on this very page), MTFU and acquire a katana.*

*Assuming, that is, you have already sourced a good-quality combat chainsaw. .
