SNIP
It all comes down wanting to feel justified in one's religious choice through confirmation of its symbols - rather than using the exercise to directly EXPERIENCE that which the symbols point to.

It totally missed the point.
SNIP

This makes the assumption that religion points to something beyond its mere symbology....which a number of peeps would dispute. (Does Richard Dawkins post here...?)

Tremendous bit of branding, that! If one must have a sky pilot, one with a sense of humour is probably the best kind.

RE: Jewish Chap and his Biblical MA
IIRC correctly from an earlier thread, he was a Kuk Sool Won practitioner who suddenly (ahem) "discovered" an ancient Jewish fighting system.

Still, KSW followers are hardly in any position to complain at this alleged plagiarism, given that their own MA broadcasts an extremely dubious lineage.

Just glanced at the vid clip Doc linked. I note that not only are the techniques reminiscent of KSW (bar the ancient Jewish dances...!) but the design of the uniforms and even the pattern on the back of the tunic look damned similar.

That can't be kosher...though his adoring students are not questioning it.

I never knew that the ancient Israelites ever had any contact with the Koreans. :o

I guess it just goes to show that we can learn something new every day, right? ::)

I always thought it was more like this:

Sofer is a nutbar.

Like hundreds if not thousands of others who market martial arts on a nationalistic or religious theme.

Man, ain't that the truth! I'm all in favor of creative marketing strategies for professional teachers, but so many of these weirdos are a bit too far over the top to reasonably expect that they will have any credibility in the eyes of the general public. :-\

^It's just another form of martial arts cult. It's like the Boxer Rebellion all over again... only with non-Chinese.
