cold water

sorry if its been asked before, i love cold water showers since yrs ago and have been enjoying again after a break - enjoyed Vlad's book about this, and some others - quick question -

- can this be done during heavy cold?

- can it be recommended to anyone with any aliment or are there conditions where it is not good?

Cold showers are a fine English cultural tradition (Ah! The days of empire!) but I think dousing with a couple of buckets of ice-cold is superior.

Personally, I recommend dousing during colds/flu. In fact, since starting dousing several years ago I very, very rarely get colds - and when I do, they last, at most, a day or two. I am a strong believer in the ability to wash away a virus, though can offer nothing empirical, data-wise.

I personally douse after a hot shower: IMHO, the combination of hot and cold is more efficacious than cold alone.

thanks for all that info....i agree dousing is far better and used to love that, and especially the barefeet on the earth makes a huge difference....however i am now in a apartment where it is simply not practical without flooding my neighbour!

Its one of the many reasons i want to be back in the woods by Christmas...

personally, I've never been able to douse my way out of a cold. it just makes me feel like crud, so I stopped trying. I believe in drinking lots of hot water, soft MA practice, and eating and sleeping right.
