Of course, there are also criminals who've recorded their rape-torture-murders. I suppose there are good reasons for certain people to watch these films. For those in the military, it is necessary for training, since they will be there in harm's way. For police, it is necessary as evidence as a possible way to catch the perpetrators. Personally, I just don't have the desire.
i'd pretty much agree with steve's definitions, here.
i think snuff film is best described as a certain kind of (all too real) pornography. i don't think that has a place on RSF. and i have no interest in seeing it, or promoting it, even indirectly by condoning its being shown, here or elsewhere.
other things, which may include violence, may be valuable from either a MA, or political point of view. that's a different matter. there's a moral, as opposed to a sensationalist, reason for this.
i don't know that shortformmike was asking for snuff film stuff, and don't assume that. i'd also vote, that if he wishes the thread to be deleted, that this be allowed.
to be honest, i did watch a few years ago, a clip of the execution of saddam which was on the net. i had very mixed feelings about this at the time. but the reason i watched was essentially political as a citizen. i felt i had a regrettable, but perhaps necessary, need to see what was happening in our world. even if watching it, on the cell phone tape, left me rather uncomfortable.
i've seen murdered people in real life, and seen people wounded mortally in real life. it's not fun. but i have a real abhorrence of people (or animals) being hurt or killed just for fun.
again, i don't assume that shortformmike was asking for this.
but i'd support his request that the thread be deleted, if he so desires.
