Taking a minute to pat myself on the back

Postby Juan on Sun Oct 04, 2009 7:59 pm

Hey guys,

Muay Thai Academy, where I currently train, held testing yesterday(10/3/09) for its students. I am very happy and proud to announce that I passed my test for the Blue level with a score of 93 out of 100 points. There are eight levels in our Muay Thai school starting from White all the way to Black & Red. Blue level is the 5th level, only three levels below the top Black & Red level. I know that in the end rankings really don't mean shit if you can't really use your stuff, still I feel pretty good about myself. It was a difficult test that included fitness, pad work, heavy bag work, shadowboxing and sparring.

Great!
I define internal martial art as unusual muscle recruitment and leave it at that. If my definition is incomplete, at least it is correct so far as it goes.

Nice one Juan! We have grading in our system (unusual for hsing i) and even though it's of course a small thing it's a nice feeling that you have the seal of certificate from your instructor that you've reached a given level - especially when the testing is stressful and demanding. Makes you feel the hard work was worth it and that you're making progress, even though on a day to day level you don't always see it.

Matt,

definitely it feels really good. testing is really unusual for MT as well, they only do it every so often. In my two years there I think this is only the second time that they have held testing. A few guys have dropped out of the fighters' stable and I think that they are looking for new talent.

if you use rank to measure your own progress and to measure what you have learned and need to learn it is very valuable.
