Yes. I was eyewitness to the baffling Shaun Cassidy-like craze for the Hoff that was prevalent in Germany & other German-speaking regions in the early 90's. The horror.

I was friends with a guy in high school whose dad played the sax, keyboard & guitar for Hoff's band.

Really can't tell you Ed. I think it has something to do with the fact that he was starring two very popular tv series at the time. So he was already well known as an actor. Other than that -shrug-

I think it's because Baywatch was so big then, and Pam Anderson couldn't sing.

I remember when I lived in Austria seeing a German TV interview. It went like this:

Interviewer: David, you are such a wonderful singer, why have you not tried to make a big success in the US.
The Hoff: Because people there would laugh at my music.

The Hoff was pretty grounded back then. As opposed to the drunken burger eating slob reduced to appearing in movies with little yellow sponges who are now bigger stars then he is.
