I had plenty of horse steak back in France years ago. Tasted like a cheap cut of beef, but seeing as it too was the cheap end of the spectrum, that's not entirely surprising.

A lot of the horse consumed in europe is from US horse slaughter houses. Which despite what they say many many of those horses are stolen and sold to meat or bought at auctions and sold to meat.
