Maybe they were tired of her howling... too soon?

There's also the chance that the coyote was rabid. You can tell, most of the time, because they'll come right up to you. However, they usually run away after they bite. (They're not zombies, or even Cudjoes). Imo, it's likely that the woman had somehow become disabled and unable to defend herself. Or, she could have died from other causes and was scavenged. An attack might not be that uncommon; it's the death that'd be strange. Stray dogs and coyotes are also attracted to food, and will attack to get it. But, they're usually after the food (in the bag), not the person.

The other thing is that it'd be really unusual if, after thousands of years, canines would naturally develop a taste for humans. It'd surely have happened with wolves. There's something else going on, I think. Btw, did this happen anywhere near Racoon City?

Steve about the "racoon rampage" above I guess they were on her porch and she tried to scare them away.

Ededed yeah thats what I usually have when I practice something longer may be better, they are brazen damn critters and smart, cool but quite eerie to see them or hear them at night, used to practice on a patio see them in the distance watching & loping around.

They used to be shy as hell- shot on sight by ranchers but thats not the case anymore I think.

I saw a pack of feral dog/coyote hybrids in Albuquerque. They were definitely larger and more aggressive than a standard, smallish, human-avoiding coyote.
