Amazing. Thanks, Tom.

Makes one think a bit. Sure, we have iphones and order cooked food to be delivered to our homes and 9 to 5 desk jobs, whenever we choose...but as a whole we are marshmallows compared to what we were back then, or what we can be, with a little self discipline and respect for our bodies.

I live just 40 minutes away, so I'll have to check him out.

The theory is grand, but in order to be truly useful it needs to fit in with the world as it is in reality today and the culture in which the philosophy is meant to survive. And it may very well be perfectly viable in that sense-- it will be interesting to find out.

Do you know of any Systema guys that have worked extensively with sick and/or disabled folk? It seems like you'd have all the tools you'd need to do it-- and why should killing be limited to the above average?

As for Erwan, there's not really anything that's especially rare about any one skill he shows-- my guess is that where he's exceptional is in the ability to do it continuously for long periods of time and also the fact that he does it all while mostly naked.

Great video clip, quite inspirational. I need to tan up and get outside more, clearly. He is a decent climber.

I would not worry about the soles of his feet: They are the toughest part of the body. Pre-modern peoples often never wear shoes of any kind; the soles can take it.

It reminds me of a couple of systems I developed about 25 years ago, namely RecessTM and Playing OutsideTM. As long as he calls it something else, we have no problem.

well, to be fair, you weren't allowed to start fires at recess.

there are so many variations on Playing Outside too.

Return to Childhood (tm) is my thing. I use mostly qigong and blatant absurdity to make it happen.

Yeah, but look at the "Ouside" he has access to. What I'd give for a back garden like that...prferably one with lions, tigers, bears and helpless maidens in it.

True. But you do have some nifty mountains where you are...hiked Sam Gak San that time I visited you, and there were these crazy guys running up and down where others were barely pulling themselves up by the safety wires.

Well we have some decent mountains hereabouts, I will give you that. Crystal pools to tombstone into are a bit few on the ground though.

Funnily enough there is one American (I guess) idiot here who, in summer, jogs through MyongDong, a prime downtown shopping district, usually crowded with pedestrians on weekend afternoons. He wears just sneakers, shorts, a sweat band and shades. The chap is not in good shape (skinny, but zero muscle tone) but does have a tan, a hairy chest and frizzy hair. He looks like a refugee from the "Starsky and Hutch" era. I see him, year in and year out, and he always makes me guffaw. If you are going to be a poser, you need to have a pose. He does not but seems to think he does.
