Glühwein - German Mulled Wine Recipe
Ingredients
• 4 quarts burgundy red wine (Other dry red wine (zinfandel, merlot, etc. can also be used.)
• 1 cup sugar
• 5 cinnamon sticks
• 12 cloves, whole
• 1 lemon, quartered
Directions
• Pour 2 cups of water into a large pot and begin heating over medium heat.
• As it begins to warm, add sugar and spices. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
• Add the lemon by squeezing them into the water and then drop them in.
• Pour the wine into the pot and continue heating over low heat.
• Heat thoroughly, but do not allow to boil!
• Steep for about 1/2 hour over low heat.
• Serve hot.
Optional
• You may add more sugar to taste if desired, stirring well so it disolves.
