Wow, some of these quotes are just plain mean:
"Any woman who acts in such a way that she cannot
give birth to as many children as she is capable of,
makes herself guilty of that many murders."
St. Augustine (354-430 CE)
I mean, chee, does that mean that every girl should try to get pregnant as soon as they are 12 or so, and remain that way (do not nurse at all, as that would prevent impregnation) until menopause?
This quote is much nicer, if simple (it does not say how much, too):
"Men are superior to women."
The Koran (c. 650)
Other quotes are of the type of wishful thinking, like so:
"A proper wife should be as obedient as a slave."
and "The female is a female by virtue of a certain
lack of qualities - a natural defectiveness."
Aristotle (384-322 BCE)
Well, SURE, it would be nice if they followed the desires of husband at his whim, but...
I AM glad to see that a lot of the chauvinism I see in Japan basically reflects this - meaning that they are just on a different timeline, and perhaps have hope!
