TV-is it worth watching

Postby KEND on Tue Feb 23, 2010 5:52 pm

Last year had some interesting shows, this year doesnt look that good
Supernatural started tame but soon got very dark, same with Prison Break which started mediocre but ended with a bang. 'Life' was excellent but only lasted two seasons. 24 has long since jumped the shark, Heroes tapered off , I saw a few Lost episodes looked good but couldnt get into it. Life on Mars was good but I prefer the Brit version
This year 'Mentalist's OK But I find the actor annoying, Ithink ;Lie to me is much better.
'Smallville' surprisingly maintains a good level of interest, caught up with 'Burn Notice' ,'Californoication' and Dexter, all very interesting, 'Curb your enthusiasm -hilarious.Still working through old MI 5 episodes-brilliant
Following is list of subjects I wish would disappear: Batchelor/Batchelorette, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift[whose severe limitations were exposed when she sang with Stevie Nicks], Ricky Gervais, Donny Osmond, Sarah Palin, Tiger Woods apologies, cooking shows[except for Gordon Ramsay] interviews with movie stars, storm warnings, talking heads discussing the health bill,

if you're into nerdy comedy, check out big bang theory. I also like How I Met Your Mother and Chuck (season 3 of chuck is airing atm in the states i think?). I caught an episode of True Blood the other night, which seemed more about sex and less about vampires.

In general no. The only shows I watch is house, family guy and a couple others.

house is so terrible... I don't undrestand how people watch it. it's just the same crap over and over.

these are the shows I'm watching now:
Dexter
Mad Men
Fringe
True Blood
the Office
24
Doctor Who
Spooks
Naruto
Bleach
Lost
Smallville (I don't know how much longer I'll watch it though... it's starting to really grate on me)

Prime time is pretty much all shit, I don't even own one. There are a couple of good cable channels, like Nat-Geo and Discovery, and I enjoy watching Reno 9-1-1 when I can, but really the Internet is where it's at for me.
NOBODY gets near Yung when Tanaka's around. That's for shit sure.

We canceled cable a number of years ago. Why should I pay to have advertisements flung at me? Plus I didn't want my daughter wasting her time watching tv when she could be reading or playing or creating.

Fong, how do you find so much time to watch TV? Don't you sleep?

haha luckily those shows aren't all on at the same time. plus I download them all and watch at my leisure anyway.
for instance, right now, the only shows that are on are:
fringe (~45 mins)
lost (~45 mins)
24 (~45 mins)
the office (~20 mins)
smallville (~45 mins)
naruto (~20 mins)
bleach (~20 mins)
and spooks is on its last ep or so at this point (~55 mins)

around may
doctor who (~55 mins)
naruto (~20 mins)
bleach (~20 mins)

not sure when the next season of mad men, dexter, and true blood will start.

Fwiw, I joined Netflix a little back and am very satisfied. I can watch Columbo or Have Gun Will Travel or old episodes of almost any show. It's much cheaper than renting, and it streams right to my tv; so I don't have to store anything.

I just dicovered the awesomeness that is the old Columbo episodes. Very nice of netflix to load this one up. Me and the little woman tossed cable awhile back and now its difficult for me to tolerate commercial interuptions.

Just got back from about 6 weeks in China with no TV and I disconnected my cable here at home. Its just too easy to sit down for 2 hours and do nothing...Personally I'm way more productive minus cable.
A movie once in a while hits the spot.

A cool but possibly canceled show:
Madventures (please google or youtube these guys, totally insane)

Ya know, see if you can get Peter Gunn and listen to the score. The plots are typical 50s, but the music is timeless.
