Re: the Chiffons thing. It was a plagiarism suit, not copyright. It's a funny story where Harrison ended up buying the company that was suing him. Anyway, I think parts of the songs are very similar, and 'he's so fine"/"my sweet lord" match up very well. (Actually, it seems like Harrison was turning a pop song into a gospel song.) But, overall, the two songs are very different. Harrison played this tune (later in the 70s) in reaction to the suit:
"A man is rich when he has time and freewill. How he chooses to invest both will determine the return on his investment."
