Hehe, that was an awesome "hadoken" street fighter fireball. Wish I could do that -- I'd have a blast with my friends.

Understanding what they are saying does not help understand it. The guy in black (Japanese) says he wanted to throw the chinese guy through the air. The TV interviewers say the sort of BS that TV interviewers say, the Chinese guy says bring it, then tells the audience to watch closely. The Chinese dances around, the Japanese tries a Kiai, and neither responds. Japanese guy landed on the corner of the podium, in the kidney region.

Notice no one around the guy (behind him) who got hit was affected?

Were they supposed to be?

Well, he has great control of his Qi Balls I guess.

I guess it's embarrassing for the Japanese guy in his own home turf to get Qi Balled by the Chinese guy.

I'd imagine that the Chinese guy winning is a sort of Japanese orientalism (if that is even possible) and about the mystification of Chinese martial arts and energy theory. Though I'm willing to be wrong about that. :)

Or, if you subscribe to the suggestion theory, the Japanese guy was not responding to earlier "chinese" cues and suggestion that might cause him to lose. When he attacked, he demonstrated to the Chinese guy what he expected a qi attack to look like. The chinese then adopted that as a suggestion, and was able to have his suggestion succeed.

As for Japanese orientalism, of course its possible. In Japan, magic comes from China. In China it comes from Persia. (And don't forget, Japanese do not consider themselves Asian.)

Japanese don't think they're Asian? All those funny Asian symbols they use for a language and small eyes must be confusing to them then..lol

No, they think of themselves solely as Japanese. I'm not quite certain they think of Chinese as Asian either, though I never discussed that. IME, it was a terms used generally for Viet, Malay, Laotians, Indonesian, Thai, etc.
