Weird Computer Problem...

Postby cerebus on Fri Mar 05, 2010 4:18 pm

For some reason, whenever I move my cursor across the screen it sometimes randomly starts highlighting things without my trying to do so. Also if I leave the cursor over a button, or sometimes even if I just pass it over a button onscreen, it'll automatically click on that button. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Should I call and exorcist? ???

My guess would be that you need a new mouse.

Don't have a mouse. Just a pad on my keyboard.

May be a dumb question but do you have touch click on your touchpad? Cause once in a while it somehow finds its way to on on my computer and its annoying as hell.

Try using a usb mouse. If the one embedded in your keyboard is funky, you might as well start all over. Or, if you're handy, you could take it apart and give it a cleaning. If the machine is more than 2 years old, you'd be better off getting a new/er one that works.

It's actually only a year or so old. It shouldn't be giving me troubles already...

The problem with touchpads on laptops is that it only takes a slight brushing of one of your hands to set them off. Usually, you can disable the "clicking" part of the pad itself and use the buttons next to the pad. Try Start, Control Panel, and look for the Mouse section. Settings to disable touch on the pad might be there.

I get an error screen that says: "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver" and asking if I want to uninstall the driver... ???

this has worked for me in the past - simply clean the mousepad. there could be something stuck to it you don't notice and it thinks you are pressing there. that has happened to me on more than 1 occasion.
