Statesmen with principles and philosophies found nations and new governments, later to be succeeded by politicians -- the career/business managers who take on the business of running the governments established by the statesmen. A lot of principles can get lost by the wayside when politicians are self-serving, though some career politicians are ethical and principled. They're just a different kind of critter than statesmen.
