No kidding! I remember trying to saw one of those in half, as a kid (not sure why, needed it for one of my various "projects" at the time... :))
Man, that thing was heavy as hell and almost as solid as metal... took me forever to get through it. That was some seriously badass plastic. -bow-

Cheap, light, near unbreakable, braindead-easy to use, hurts like a bitch. Makes a nice swishing sound which is good for fending off wild dogs :)

Next up, I want one of these

i think--really--they used to make those sjamboks out of elephant dicks or something.

They probably won't let something like a sjambok onto a plane these days...

I've looked into whips a while back but could never find anything small enough to carry in my pocket. I'd like to not have to carry anything (that's legal everywhere and TSA-safe, like a bullwhip) on the belt, and I would certainly like to avoid having to carry something in my hand... But that's probably asking too much, I know.

It was rhino hide, iinm. They are a traditional Zulu weapon --works great for killing snakes and beating off dogs. Nedless to say, the knob on the end is use The S. African police used them to disperse crowds. In the Caribbean, there is a weapon made from a bull's penis that is stretched over a wire frame (from coat hangers, for instance) and dried in hot pepper. It was called a "bull bun", but I have no idea what they call it now.

and, no, they probably won't let you take it with you into the cabin. It'd have to be checked --just like your asegai or iklwa :)

Try an urban whip. I can't come up with a non-pornographic image at this moment, but I've seen them in my teacher's arsenal: it is a small length of braided cord with a small weight at the end. You can put in a pocket.

For pocket weapons, carry everywhere weapon, the short stick or a sturdy pen are very good. Of course, it takes some skill to use them, like any weapon the more basic they are, the more skill it takes to use them. But IMO they can give an edge to someone fairly familiar with them and who has the will to do damage.

DAMN! Looks like you'll have to post the pornographic pic then! But no shots of your teacher's arse, please. ;D

Never heard of 'urban whips' but your description sounds a lot like a snake whip?

Image

Problem with pens, kubotans, etc. is length; they won't help much against a knife. A whip (if you are skilled with it) should be a lot more helpful than those.

A snake whip won't fit into a pocket, but I was thinking maybe make it wearable around the waist, next to (just below) the belt.
But that takes work dammit. :)

I might get to it one of these days though... I came extremely close a couple of times to buying a snake whip for some practice.
Our neighborhood/my lifestyle/job don't call for anything like that, so it hasn't been a priority in any way. But it could be a lot of fun, to play with that thing. (And no Graham, not the kind of play you're apparently associating with whips... :P :-X)

They do make very short snake whips, down to about 2 feet long, but the power they generate is a bit lower. I've seen some that are actually disguisable as belts, etc. Still as I mentioned before I prefer a single tail, of which the snake whip is one variant. You can get a fairly good and inexpensive one for about 90 USD. They are not so conspicuous as long as you don't get a purple one or something. If anyone asks, just say you are into BDSM and you are cruising for a bottom.

It looks like that one, but the cord is less thick and it ends with a weight. My teacher called it an urban whip, but all I got on google was pictures of a car and pr0n. I'll try to ask him next time if I can take a pic to post it here, if I don't forget.

dude, that is all wrong.

BTW, I think the weight would sort of diminish the striking power of a whip. I've seen a single tail cut into a steak that someone hung up, cut plastic bottles in half, break glasses, etc. Not sure if a weight is really necessary.

;D

I don't know, I never used it. He showed it once to us. I don't know if the weight is for a different technique or if it simply adds power for a less skilled user, like a criminal who probably does not like to spend too much time practicing but having something efficient.

I have limited training with flexible weapons.

Sounds like a plan!

If it reduces the speed, it certainly will... Energy is in proportion to mass, but to square of speed...

Teo, thanks... How long is it, do you know?

Hmm, went through 12 pages and no pr0n... Canadian Google must be naughtier than the US one. ;D

About 2 feet long. Oh, and I think that it has a loop at the other end, but I am not sure.
