firefox emergency!

Postby ashe on Mon Jun 30, 2008 1:13 am

a little background;

i was trying to install firebug but kept getting a -203 error on the install.

so in a pinch i tired to install FF3.0 but i screwed myself, because i didn't have an install saved for 2.whatever and NONE of my add ons work with 3.0 and i also found out that i can no longer install ANY add ons because i get the same -203 mesage for all of the updates i attempted to install.

there was an issue with some old add ons that i tried to get rid of but wouldn't uninstall no matter what i did prior to the DL of the 3.0 version.

i sort of assume it's because of windows vista but i originally installed the add ons in the first place... so what gives?

and i REALLY LOVE some of my add ons like reminder fox, morning coffee and easy gestures makes working a snap.

Don't have much to offer you, but you can back up what you got and play around. There's an add-on that was touted by PC Mag or someone that I installed but never really figured out how to use 'cause I'm obviously clueless LOL, but maybe it could help.

MR. Tech Local Install.

Not all my FF2 addons work on FF3 yet, but I am sure that given some time the developers will come up with new versions. The addons that I use most work with FF3 though.

HTTP Error 203
Non-Authoritative Information. Request probably completed successfully but can't tell from original server.

It's strange. I never encountered that error before. Did anything screw your internet connection?

i don't think it's an HTTP error, it's an unexpected install error on FF.

although i have been having troubles with my connection.

i found this last night but flaming windows vista won't allow me to access the documents and settings folder. >:(

I don't use vista but in XP i seached for the "Documents and Settings" and then right-clicked the folder and selected properties and unchecked read-only and hidden and from that point I could access the folder through drive c.

One of my co-workers sent me this email today, don't know if it will help you:

Tried it both at home and here, all the FF2 extensions that used to be "cannot load because of compatability" now work like a charm...

the url.........

because that's what came on my new PC and the price was right.

i actually don't think vista has been so bad. my firewall allows me to block some of the applications that would be sharing my information with evilsoft and it has some nice customization options.

i think the problem was i DL'd a bad add on at some point and it corrupted my FF.

it's probably a vista thing but could be a vista +ff2 addins +ff3 compatability booboo.

do you have an installer for ff2?

I also had the bad idea of installing Vista on my home PC. The 64 bit version, no less!

When I installed a beta version of FF3 (Minesweeper or something like that), it recommended to turn off the bug reporting problem. I don't think that this is your issue (and it is probably only a beta problem) but it may be worth looking into it.

well, i've said it before and i'll say it again. my lady is da' -nuke-

she figured it out. it basically was a windows issue but the fix above worked, you just had to look under the "roaming" profile.

If anyone's looking for an excellent firewall, there's no need to go to Vista to get it. Comodo has a great, free firewall that safeguards Internet traffic and local operations within the OS
