^^ Would you prefer ticks? They have a better "technique", that way...
It bugged me for a long while, as I can't sleep with even one mosquito in the room (unless I'm dead-tired) -- their sound wakes me up and that really pisses me off.
I've experimented several times, tried to just hold out my arm, the 'yin' side up to make it easier for it, and watched it sit, drink a little, take off, fly around, sit again, drink a little more, etc. Yet sometimes it would just sit and drink once -- and then nearly fall off...
It might be the latching issue, i.e. they just get disconnected from the source. But what's more likely I think, is that this is a better (safer for the little guy) approach -- being "light on their feet", taking small bites whenever they can get it and quickly fly off, back to the safety of their seemingly-onmidirectional flight, and then try another latch... With one long latch, chances of getting slapped dead would be much higher, so basically what I'm saying is that it's their victims fault, i.e. we should blame all our ancestors (and ourselves) for training them this way.

I wish I could reason with them -- that way they'd eat and live, and I'd sleep. If only I could talk to it, "look, its OK, I'm not gonna hurt you, here's a nice spot -- eat all you want, and then LEAVE ME THE FUCK ALONE for the rest of the night"... But no!
