First when people talk about spiritual aspects each individual has a differing view of what it entails
It should be a result of standard training
Three stages are needed
1. Earth.body training
2. Man.mind training
3. Heaven.spirit training
Without the first two in place the third will lead to dark places

I can definitely appreciate that Wayne. That was the exact model of my yang style teacher from years ago. He felt that the spiritual planes were an absolute necessity for reaching the highest levels. I'm not really too sure if I agree with him on that matter, but I'm definitely not against it either.

I wonder what 2 and 3 look like?

Any training that doesn't incorporate and strengthen the spirit is pointless.

Pulling power from earth.
Gathering heaven energy.
Man, a transformer, caught in-between

Wan Lai Sheng said it best [and I am paraphrasing here], "Ziranmen [his core system] is an excellent basis for spiritual practice, but not spiritual in and of itself."

2&3 don't look like anything they are internal developments of 1
It is a way of focus that cannot be achieved without the first method being firmly grasped
The physical is the only thing we can see without deluding ourselves
If the physical is not right the mind has no home
If the mind has no home the spirit roams aimlessly
To many people train low level tai chi and leave either thinking it has no value or they understand its depth
They move on to other things that are easier or travel from one art to another never really reaching any worthwhile level
They then talk about tai chi as though the were once an expert
In reality they are just jilted lovers

that is one hell of a post Wayne. My old Yang style teacher would love it I believe. But my Chen style teacher would feel quite differently about it. My Chen style teacher paid a lot of money for the best Tai Chi available. That's why he is so good. On the other hand, my old Yang style teacher thought that he had some of the best material available, but he does not. His power, at least he think so, is from a direct link to taoism and Buddhism. It's pretty much the same thing as if you were a Christian who believed in God and gains power through God. The daoist have their hierarchy and the Buddhists as well

Nothing to do with religion
It is process pure and simple
Mind science leading to clarity

He had mentioned clear thinking. But no I'm sure that he believes power is gained through Buddha. Anyways it doesn't matter all that matters is that he was happy and quite good.

Indeed. People get hung up on the wrong ideas.
You've got a physical body, mental body, and spiritual body. Have to feed and exercise them all properly.

Sounds fine within a Taoist context but there's plenty of spiritual traditions that don't involve those three stages and don't seem to be lacking without them.

Different people have different things to do.

Note my personal training is roughly under this framework, but I always feel diversity in spiritual models makes it more interesting and avoids dogma.
